Luyanda Zwane Exits “Sibongile & The Dlaminis”
Another season of “Sibongile & The Dlaminis” is coming, but its lead actress, Luyanda Zwane, will not be part of it.
On Thursday, 23 May, DStv confirmed that the telenovela – which revolves around Sibongile Mbambo (played by Zwane), an aspiring small-town girl who becomes a domestic worker for a wealthy family – was being renewed for a second season.
However, the role of Sibongile will now be played by up-and-coming actress, Nsikelelo Mthiyane.
In a recent interview with a local publication, Zwane confirmed her departure from the show, explaining that she left of her own accord.
“I chose not to renew my contract for season two after completing my season one obligations,” she said.
For weeks, rumours have been circulating about the 20-year-old’s allegedly rude behaviour on set, leading fans to believe that she was actually replaced by Mthiyane.
However, Zwane vehemently denied these rumours: “People will always have opinions on how they experience you. I have never heard anyone on any set complain about me being a drama queen. Those who know me, know how I am. I don’t pay too much attention to negativity.”
The second season of “Sibongile & The Dlaminis” is slated to premiere on 29 July – no doubt fans will tune in to see if Mthiyane can fill Zwane’s shoes in the lead role.
